Welcome in Barendrecht!


Barendrecht has expanded from less then 20,000 inhabitants in 1990 to almost 50,000 in 2014. Barendrecht has unique spots like the old village center, Canrisse Grienden (wetlands) and the traditional mill Pendrecht.

Carnisse Wetlands


Carnisse Grienden is an unique wetland with a variety of fauna and flora. Characteristic to this area are the many willows. On the Carnisse Grienden website (in Dutch) serveral walking and biking routes can be found.

The old village

The old village of Barendrecht is an heritage site with historic buildings like tavern Diggels (17th century), the old church (1512) and mansion Waalesteyn (1628). The watertower (1912) is a landmark for Barendrecht.


Mill "Pendrecht"

The Pendrecht mill was built in 1731 and is the last traditiional mill in the IJsselmonde region. The mill can be visited on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
